When shopping for a new lounge, people wonder whether to choose leather or fabric. A lounge is an important part of our home, it’s where we relax after a long day, it’s where we entertain guests, it’s where we spend time with the family.

A leather lounge is a great investment, a good quality leather lounge will last you for many years, so it’s important that you choose one that is suited to both your lifestyle and your home.

What is it about leather lounges people love?

Leather lounges are extremely durable and will last you a lot longer than an average fabric lounge. Leather keeps its shape and looks for years, and you don’t have to worry about clumsy adults or messy children. Looking after a leather lounge is extremely simple, all it needs is a quick wipe over with a damp cloth and a little dusting.

Leather lounges can be a little less *stain resistant* but they are still a lot easier to clean than a fabric lounge – especially one that is a light colour. You do need to do some occasional *maintenance* on a leather lounge to keep it looking fabulous. This is a simple matter of moisturising the leather to keep it soft and looking new.

Leather lounges are also hypoallergenic, and, even though they don’t hold onto hair and pet dander, if you have unruly pets, it’s not recommended you buy a leather lounge. Any scratches from naughty or boisterous dogs and cats can be very hard to fix. If, however you have a dog that is well trained, or isn’t one to sit on the sofa, a leather lounge is still a great option for those with pets.

A lot of people think leather lounges are cold in winter and warmer to sit in, in summer than fabric lounges, but while there is no definitive answer, a leather sofa will generally reflect the temperature of the room, as well as your body temperature. On a cold day a leather lounge can be cold to the touch, but under a warm throw blanket it will warm up to a nice comfortable temperature.

On hot days, if the room isn’t air-conditioned your leather lounge may warm up causing you to sweat and stick to the leather, but if your house is more climate controlled it will be perfectly comfortable.

Leather comes in a range of colours these days, but a neutral leather palette will work well with most decors. A leather lounge brings sophistication and elegance to your living room, and, is, in fact a great addition to any room, whether it’s the bedroom, lounge room or dining room.

Ultimately the choice is up to you, it depends on your needs, lifestyle and your home. Leather lounges are a long lasting and elegant addition, if you have never tried a leather lounge before – now is the time.
